ISTANBUL - PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers once again applied to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office to interview with their clients.

Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers Mazlum Dinç, İbrahim Bilmez, Newroz Uysal and Serbay Köklü made a new application to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office to interview with their clients.

Rezan Sarıca and Newroz Uysal, lawyers of Abdullah Öcalan, were able to visit their clients after eight years on 2-22 May, 12-18 June, and August 7, 2019.

The Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office imposed a six-month lawyer visitation ban on September 23, 2020, on the grounds of the "Road Map" prepared in addition to Abdullah Öcalan’s defense sent to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in 2009. Although the visitation ban ended on March 23, the applications made by the lawyers were not responded until March. However, the lawyers of the PKK leader stated that Abdullah Öcalan had been given a new disciplinary punishment as of January, and that they learned this only in March.

Phone call was interrupted

Abdullah Öcalan, who has been kept under severe isolation conditions in the İmralı F Type High Security Closed Prison for 22 years, first benefited from the right of phone call on April 27, 2020. The PKK leader talked to his brother Mehmet Öcalan on the phone on March 25, as public concerns grew due to some posts on social media, but it was announced that the phone call was interrupted.
