DERSİM - In Dersim, a woman named V.Y. was subjected to violence and death threats by the gendarmerie. The women pointed out that the aim of this incident was to intimidate the people of Dersim and said: “Everyone should rebel. There is no other way out.”

On the Dersim-Ovacık road in Dersim center on May 20, a woman named V.Y. was subjected to Criminal Report Check (GBT) application as a "suspect" by the police officers, and about 10 minutes later, while she was waiting at the bus stop to go home, she was laid on the ground by the gendarmerie as a "suicide bomb". The citizens who heard the screams of V.Y. reacted to the gendarmerie and the police who came to the scene. However, to disperse the people, the violence was continued by using tear gas and firing into the air by the police.

V.Y., who was subjected to gendarmerie violence, went to the Tunceli Police Department on the day of the incident and complained about the gendarmes, while the Governorship announced that two law enforcement officers were dismissed from their duties the previous day. On the other hand, it was stated that there was a "de facto restriction" regarding the incident and therefore lawyers could not access the minutes.

The women reacted to what happened in the city.

‘Done with the courage of withdrawing from the Istanbul Convention’

Stating that these are unacceptable, Sultan Sarıateş said: "Are people wanted to be scared with this incident? What is the main purpose? These events could have had negative consequences. People now think their lives are in danger. The situation is a great danger for everyone, from newborns to old people, from women to men."

‘It is necessity to increase solidarity’

The shepherd Nazlı Çelik, who warned that every woman in Dersim can be treated similarly, noted that the trauma inflicted on V.Y. was directed at all women. Nazlı said: "This is immoral. It seems that we are being watched and harassed at every moment of our lives. It is desired to create a perception of insecurity in the society. Unfortunately, the life of the woman who has been crushed and tried to be destroyed for years. If women are seen guilty even walking on the street, it is now a necessity to increase solidarity."
