HRFT: 2727 women killed in 10 years

NEWS CENTER - According to HRFT’s study, which draws attention to the importance of the Istanbul Convention, at least 2727 women lost their lives in Turkey in the last 10 years due to violence based on gender discrimination.
 
The Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (HRFT) aims to emphasize the importance of the Istanbul Convention so prepared the infographic and video work. The foundation used slogan as "We do not give up on the Istanbul Convention. The convention is in effect for us, apply". According to the study, at least 2727 women lost their lives in the last 10 years in Turkey due to violence based on gender discrimination.
 
108 women were killed in the first four months
 
According to the study, 185 women were killed by their spouse, ex-husband, boyfriend and fiance in 2020. In the same year, 265 children were abused, 96 women were raped, 818 women were forced into prostitution, 284 women were killed, and the deaths of 255 women were found suspicious.
 
Five out of 10 women died as a result of domestic violence, one out of every five women who lost their lives were killed because they wanted to break up.
 
According to the study, 108 women were killed in the first four months of 2021 and the deaths of 74 women were found suspicious.
 
75 people were detained with torture
 
In the study, which stated that 75 people were detained with ill-treatment and torture in the last 10 months, it was stated that four people were injured due to police attack, eight actions were intervened and two actions were prevented.
 
Repression
 
In the study, the "Istanbul Convention Keeps Alive" banners hung by two political parties on their buildings in Artvin and Edirne were lowered by the police, four refugees were detained in the action against the decision to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention in Denizli and the decision was taken to deport related refugees.
