Özgür Gündem trial adjourned until July

ISTANBUL - In the case which 22 people, 17 of whom were journalists, were taken into custody during the raid on the Özgür Gündem newspaper building, the file was sent to the prosecutor's office to prepare an opinion on the merits. The files of those who had an arrest warrant were parted.
 
The lawsuit was filed against 22 people, 17 of whom were journalists, who were beaten and taken into custody in the police raid on August 16, 2016, against Özgür Gündem newspaper, which was closed with the Decree-Law, on charges of "insulting a public official" and "preventing the public official from performing a duty". The 9th hearing of the case was held at the Istanbul 5th Criminal Court of First Instance. While the journalists who were tried did not attend the hearing, their attorneys were present.
 
Attorney Özcan Kılıç stated that there was no action to be taken in the file and demanded the decision to be announced.
 
Files parted 
 
The court board decided to part the files of those who had an arrest warrant and to send the file to the prosecutor's office for the preparation of the opinion on the merits and adjourned the hearing to July 1.
