Newroz celebration in Diyarbakır 2018-03-21 17:54:11   DİYARBAKIR – People of Diyarbakır began to gather in Newroz Area in the morning. After the speeches, the celebration ended with the action of young people protesting the isolation imposed on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan. Police attacked the young people leaving the area by shouting slogans such as, “Long live the resistance of Afrin”, “Long live Leader Apo” and detained many people.   Hundreds of thousands began to gather in Newroz area in Diyarbakır in the morning. After the speech of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Pervin Buldan, a band named Bandista took to the stage. Then, Büşra Cizrelioğlu made a speech on the behalf of Platform for Sur.   Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Co-mayor Ahmet Türk, who was removed from his post by the state, made a speech and he said, “Today we pass through historic processes. A dirty policy is being carried out on the Kurdish people. When we look at the past, we see these policies were previously carried out. The Kurdish people were killed in Ağrı, Dersim and Halabja. But what were done never and never make the Kurdish people leave their struggle for freedom. Genocidal policies were carried out after June 7. The ruling power saw these policies didn’t work against the Kurds so they take those who carrying out the struggle for democracy and freedom to intimidate them. Those who want to strengthen their power by attacking Afrin will be completely disappointed. We don’t forget Kemal Kurkut, who was killed in Amed Newroz and he is our martyr of Newroz.”   A journalist detained   After the speeches, many young people took the stage to protest the isolation imposed on the PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan. The young people shouted slogans such as, “Long live the resistance of Afrin”, “Long live Leader Apo”, “Murderer AKP” and “Murderer Erdoğan”. Police officers, who couldn’t stop the young people, tried to detain journalists. In the meantime, police beat and detained Yenigün’s reporter Uğur Çakıl. Police also attacked the young people and detained many people.
