Wife of patient prisoner saying ‘They can kill us’ waits for solidarity

	ADANA- Cengiz Aslan has been held Kayseri Bünyan T-type Prison and he has suffered from coeliac disease. His wife Hülya Aslan reported that her husband was subjected to torture while he was exiled. After the torture in the prison, her husband told her, “Our lives are in danger, they can kill us’.

	 

	Torture, exile, violence and oppression in prisons that are sign for the rights violations in Turkey before and after the declaration of the state of emergency increasingly go on. As the resistance of prisoners continues in the prisons, the voice of patient prisoners is delivering to the public through their families. One of these patient prisoners is Cengiz Aslan, former mukhtar of Gülbahçe Neighborhood of Adana’s Seyhan district. Cengiz was exiled from Karaman M-type Closed Prison to Kayseri Bünyan T-type Prison and he told his wife the torture they faced while being exiled.

	 

	‘They were subjected to physical violence’

	 

	Hülya said her husband and 11 political prisoners had been subjected to torture and two of her husband’s teeth had been broken. “They were subjected to physical violence because they didn’t accept the strip search in the prison. I am concerning about my husband’s life, what is going on there?” said Hülya.

	 

	‘Our lives are in danger’

	 

	Stating that her husband has suffered from celiac disease caused by a reaction to gluten (a protein found in wheat, rye and barley), and that her husband should be careful what he eats, Hülya said, “He should be careful not to eat everything. He cannot eat everything and his health condition is not good.”

	 

	Recalling that her husband and other political prisoners were subjected to torture while being exiled to Kayseri Bünyan T-type Prison, Hülya said, “Two of his friends were hospitalized because they were battered. He told me, ‘Our lives are in danger, they can kill us’ and this situation is concerned us.”

	 

	‘They die as long as we keep silent’

	 

	Hülya called on everyone to be aware towards the ongoing rights violations in prisons and she added, “My husband was targeted by the prison manager when he was in Karaman. He was exiled to Kayseri and the torture increases. We should speak up for the prisoners before it is too late. My husband is a patient prisoner; he has a risk of death. We should stand by the patient prisoners. They die as long as we keep silent.”
