‘AKP is condemned to lose in Kurdistan’ 2017-10-14 13:48:47   Duygu Ciniviz DİYARBAKIR – DBP Provincial Co-chair Ruken Akça commented on the ongoing demolition in Sur and ‘Urgent expropriation’ decision for Fiskaya and she pointed out that the AKP is condemned to ‘lose’ in Kurdistan, where the party loots for rent. As the demolition began in the Alipaşa and Lalebey neighborhoods of Diyarbakır’s Sur district on May 23 has continued, an ‘Urgent expropriation’ was declared in Fiskaya by cabinet during its meeting held on July 11. Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Diyarbakır Co-chair Ruken Akça commented on the ongoing demolition in Sur and ‘Urgent expropriation’ decision for Fiskaya and she said, “The areas, where the people fight tooth and claw for struggle for life, of course, will not be left for the ruling power. You can pull down the people’s houses but the people will keep their resistance by setting up their tents like they did in Sur.” 'AKP is afraid of the memory of the resistance' Stating that the places having historical and cultural importance such as Sur are wanted to be destroyed by the state, Ruken pointed out that the AKP wants to create its memory in cities and towns they burned and demolished like the Ottoman Empire did. “Because the AKP is afraid of the memory of the resistance. Not only the Kurds but also the people of different nationalities are living in Sur and it also attacks the other nationalities,” said Ruken. ‘Sur is a women’s town’ Emphasizing that Sur is a women’s town, Ruken added, “I am also one of those who were born and grew up in the town of women. The only place I can feel the history that my parents told me throughout my life is Sur. In order to get away from the stress of everyday life, I often go to Sur and walk around in the historical neighborhoods and I breathe. Therefore, it is impossible to leave us without ‘memory’ while everything is so fresh in our memory. Ruken highlighted that Dicle and Feritköşk neighborhoods of Diyarbakır’s Yenişehir district were declared as ‘Risk areas’on July 2017 by the Cabinet upon letter of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization dated July 11, 2017 with the reference number 8972 while the demolition in Sur continued. Ruken continued to talk as follows; “When you put the pictures of Sur and Fiskaya side by side, you understand how a very serious and dangerous politics is wanted to be carried out. The neighborhoods facing to be demolished have a culture mentioned in many songs. The ruling party should turn back from this dangerous politics while they still can. The areas, where the people    fight tooth and claw for struggle for life, of course, will not be left for the ruling power. Those who are children now will ask for the account of these policies when they grow up. AKP is condemned to lose in Kurdistan.”
