ÖGİ’s report: 2 women journalists killed in September

	DIYARBAKIR- Free Journalists Initiative (ÖGİ) has released its report on rights violation towards journalists in September. The report says two women journalists were killed in September and 176 journalists are still behind bars in Turkey.

	Free Journalists’ Initiative (ÖGİ) has released its Report on the Media Violation in September. In the reports, it is recalled that receiving information is a right and untouchable and it is stated that it is used as first bullet of the war in Turkey. The report mentions the removal of three northern Iraq-based television channels, K24 TV, WAAR TV and Rudaw TV, from satellite Turksat before the referendum held in Kurdistan Federal Region by the Turkish Radio and Television Supreme Council’s (RTUK) and it emphasizes that this practice was unacceptable.

	Two journalists killed in September

	The report says journalist Gauri Lankesh Bangalor, journalist and human rights advocate in India, was killed outside of her home on September 5, and journalist Halla Barakat and her mother Orouba Bakarat were killed on September 23 in Istanbul’s Üsküdar district.

	The report lists the media violation in September as follows;

	*176 journalists are behind bars.

	*3 journalists are in custody.

	*2 journalists were arrested.

	*4 journalists were released.

	*53 journalists stood trial.

	*Lawsuit opened against one journalist, the request for the opening of a Channel was rejected.

	*4 journalists were sentenced to prison (Totally 7 years, 8 months and 20 days in prison).

	*2 journalists were killed.

	*3 television channels were removed from Türksat.

	Detention

	*On September 1, 2017: Detention period of Evrensel Newspaper reporterKemal Özer, who was detained in Dersim, was extended for 7 days.

	*On September 2, 2017: Journalist Çağdaş Erdoğan was detained near Fenerbahçe Stadium in Istanbul’s Kadıköy district while taking pictures.

	*On September 1, 2017: Distributor of Özgürlükçü Demokrasi newspaper, Umut Demireki is still in custody.

	Imprisonment

	*On September 13, 2017: Journalist Çağdaş Erdoğan was jailed after 12 days in custody.

	*On September 15, 2107, Evrensel Newspaper reporter Kemal Özer, who was detained in Dersim, has been jailed on charges of "membership of a (terrorist) organization."
