‘TJA calls on CPT regarding the Imralı isolation’ 2021-12-03 14:47:15     MARDİN - TJA activists called on the CPT regarding the Imralı isolation and said, ‘’The way to fight against those who want to strangle the women’s freedom struggle is going through to break the isolation’’.   The Free Women’s Movement (TJA) made a statement regarding the isolation imposed on PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in Mardin. TJA activist Münevver Ölker made the statement on behalf of the women who came together in front of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Provincial Organization building.   Münevver reminded that the lawyers and family of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s numerous applications to Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office were left unanswered. Münevver said that Abdullah Öcalan has been held in heavy isolation conditions for nearly 23 years. ‘’In the person of Mr. Öcalan, we know very well that the historical comradeship of Kurdish women, who wrote the history of resistance and struggle is tried to be strangled,’’ she said. Münevver stated that the ongoing isolation has deeply affected all segments of society, especially women.   Call on CPT   Emphasizing that the deepening economic crisis in the country is the result of isolation and persistently unresolved Kurdish problem, Münevver said that the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) should be implemented. Münevver, who called on the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) for an effective examination, said, ‘’The struggle against isolation is resistance against fascism. The way to fight against those who want to strangle the women’s freedom struggle is going through to break the isolation’’.   The statement ended with applause and slogans.
