‘Demand of families of prisoners is also our demand’

	AMED - Supporting the vigil action for the release of sick prisoners and the prisoners whose remissions for sentences were canceled, the women said that the demands of the families of prisoners are also their demands.

	 

	In order to release the sick prisoners and the prisoners whose remissions for sentences were canceled, the relatives of the prisoners started the ‘’Justice Vigil for Sick Prisoners’’ at the Diyarbakır Bar Association on November 16. About the action that continued on the 17th day, 78’s Association Co-Chair Halise Batgi and Asiye Şimşek and Emine Işık, whose two sons are in prison, spoke to JINNEWS.

	 

	Enough is enough!

	 

	Halise Batgi said that the sick prisoners and the prisoners whose remissions for sentences were canceled and not released should be released as soon as possible. Stating that the vigil initiated by the relatives of prisoners is very valuable, Halise said, ‘’The conditions of the prisoners are very bad and there are intense violations of rights. Everyone, not just the relatives of the prisoners, should approach the situation of the prisons sensitively. Some sick prisoners cannot meet their basic needs. They are not treated either. The place of sick prisoners is not prison, they should be released. Enough is enough’’.

	 

	‘Rights, law, justice must be served’

	 

	Asiye Şimşek, who greeted the action of the relatives of the prisoners, said that they stand by with the families of the prisoners until the end. Asiye continued, ‘’There can get no results with persecution and pressure. Rights, law and justice must be served. Hundreds of prisoners are held in bad conditions in prisons. How long will this persecution continue? I greet the families and mothers who are on the vigil. Our hearts are with them. Their vigil is not something simple. Despite their illnesses, mothers go there every day and keep vigil’’.

	 

	‘Prisoners are under pressure’

	 

	Emine Işık, whose two sons are in prison, first drew attention to the conditions of prisons. Emine said, ‘’My two sons are prisoners. One is being held in Giresun Prison. We cannot go because it’s so far away. When we talk on the phone, he says his conditions are very bad. His books are confiscated, the food is not clean, there is no hot water. They are under pressure. My other son is in Diyarbakır Prison. When he was exiled there, he was not allowed to take any of his belongings. They tortured. My son is now being held in a single-person cell. They are under a lot of pressure. A strip search is imposed’’.

	 

	‘We do not accept pressure and unlawfulness’

	 

	Demanding support for the vigil action initiated by the families of the prisoners, Emine said, ‘’The isolation on the prisoners is aggravated. Many sick prisoners are in serious condition. There are prisoners that need to be released. We do not accept pressure and unlawfulness. The demands of the prisoners’ families, who are on vigil action, are also our demands. Justice must be served for the prisoners’’.
