DAKAP ready for November 25: It’s time of freedom against war, violence 2021-11-16 12:38:28     DİYARBAKIR - DAKAP Term Spokesperson Çağla İzci said that the November 25 actions and activities, which will take place with the leading of DAKAP, will start tomorrow. Çağla emphasized that they will be in the fields against violence, harassment, rape, and usurpation of rights.   The Free Women’s Movement (TJA), Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Women’s Council and women’s organizations in the region and in Turkey are preparing to take to the streets against male-state violence as part of the November 25 International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. While the actions and activities are started in many cities, a series of events will be held in Diyarbakır under the leading of Dicle Amed Women’s Platform (DAKAP) with the slogan ‘’Time for women’s freedom against war, violence, poverty and abuse’’. The activities will be started tomorrow. Speaking about the events to be held in Diyarbakır, Dicle Amed Women’s Platform (DAKAP) Term Spokesperson Çağla İzci stated that they will be in the fields with the emphasis ‘’We are women, we are strong and we are together everywhere’’.   ‘The patriarchal system confronts women in every field’   Stating that women are fighting against violence against women in all countries, especially in Turkey, Çağla noted that 25 November is not only the day to fight violence against women, but also a day to fight against the patriarchal system. Çağla said, ‘’For a long time in Turkey and many countries, November 25 has been mentioned to as the day of struggle only for women who are exposed to violence at home and on the street. Of course, the violence we see at home as women is unfortunately one of the biggest problems we see from the patriarchal system. But women are not subjected to violence only because of the patriarchal order. The patriarchal system confronts women in every field. Women are killed while fighting against them in every field. For this reason, 25 November is not only the day of combating violence against women, it is a day to oppose the patriarchal system and the violence that comes from this system’’.   ‘It’s time for women’s freedom’   Pointing to the policies implemented by the government towards women in Turkey and the region, Çağla said that women are exposed to pressure and attacks from all sides. Çağla said, ‘’There is a serious intensified violence against imprisoned women in prisons. However, sexual assaults have increased especially in the region and in the province of Diyarbakır. Especially after the Istanbul Convention, which was abolished by the government, women are under attack. On the other hand, the women’s struggle is tried with baseless indictments and tried to be suppressed with punishments. Again, with these policies implemented, child abuse has increased. Drug addiction is very common among young people. Gang incidents are also trying to spread to the society by the government. Likewise, trading on the women body. Against all these problems, we will speak out against these oppressions against women. Our voice will be the voice of ‘it’s time for women’s freedom’.’’   ‘We want to raise our voices’   Çağla stated that as DAKAP, they will carry out activities to draw attention to violence against women this year, as they do every 25 November, and gave the following information, ‘’We determined the starting event of our work on the 17th of November as a solidarity event with imprisoned women. Because recently, there have been searches up to the extent of sexual assault against women who have been detained and imprisoned. The most important example of this is Garibe Gezer. Within the scope of this planning, we will write a card to the imprisoned women and send our solidarity message together with our women friends in front of the Ofis Post Office (PTT) at 11:00. Together with the HDP Youth Council, we continue to our struggle on drug addiction. We will continue to shout out by emphasizing this. We have determined the routes for our final march for November 25. But we couldn’t make it clear because of the permissions and we are still waiting for that. We want our march to be especially Bağlar or Ofis district. Because these routes are the areas where trade is made on the women body and this is tried to be imposed on the society. For this reason, we want to raise our voice by carrying out our march on these routes’’.   ‘We have partnered with many institutions’   Expressing that they will collectively participate in the sit-in that the Human Rights Association (IHD) attributed to Gülistan Doku on November 20, Çağla said that a team affiliated to A Theater Room will have a performance of ‘’My name is Theater’’ organized by the Justice Commission for Gülistan Doku. Noting that they plan to hold the final with the march on November 25 at 17:00, Çağla said, ‘’On November 24-25, the Human Rights Commission and the Network for Combating with Violence will publish the reports of violations of the past 10 months’’. Çağla added that they have partnered with many non-governmental organizations in the works to be carried out for November 25.   ‘We will shout out with our strength in the fields’   Çağla said, ‘’We, as women, can be accused as ‘guilty’ when we defend our rights in these lands. But we are always here. We are in a state of solidarity by waging our struggle. And we will continue to raise our voice against the problems we experience every day. We will continue to do it every day without getting tired, not only on November 25. Perhaps this is why women are tried to be punished the most. That’s why we will be in the fields on November 25 with the emphasis of ‘we are strong and we are together’. On November 25, the Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we call on all our women comrades to shout out together and say ‘no to femicides’.’’
