3 years 1 month prison sentence to Hozan Canê 2021-10-18 16:50:25   EDİRNE - Three years, one month, and 15 days prison sentence was given to Hozan Canê in the trial she was tried for allegedly ‘’aiding to a terrorist organization’’.   The final hearing of the case which artist Hozan Canê was tried for allegedly ‘’aiding to a terrorist organization’’ was held at the Edirne 3rd High Criminal Court. While Hozan Canê did not attend the hearing, her lawyers were present. The public prosecutor repeated the opinion he gave at the previous hearing and demanded that Hozan Canê be punished for ‘’aiding to a terrorist organization’’.   Demand for acquittal   The lawyers demanded acquittal, stating that their client did not commit the crime charged against her and that the digital media accounts shown as crime elements do not belong to their client. Stating that they did not agree with the opinion, lawyer Nevroz Akalan said: ‘’It is not possible to find the crime of making propaganda and aiding. There was no propaganda crime in the incident. The social media where the shares are made does not belong to the client.    Even if it belongs to my client, these posts are in the nature of a statement of opinion, no crime elements have occurred. We demand the acquittal of the client and the implementation of the provisions in her favour.’’   Announcing the decision after the defenses, the court board decided that Hozan Canê be sentenced to three years, one month and 15 days imprisonment for the allegation of ‘’aiding to a terrorist organization’’.   What happened?   Hozan Canê, who was detained in Edirne in 2018, was jailed pending trial for allegedly ‘’being a member of a terrorist organization’’ and was sentenced six years and three months imprisonment. Hozan’s, whose file was overturned in terms of basis and procedure by the 16th Penal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals, trial was restarted. Hozan’s imprisonment continued. After a prison sentence of two years and five months, she was released on October 1, 2020, on the condition of a travel ban for abroad.
