October 11, 2012: International Day of the Girl Child 2021-10-11 12:48:07     With the decision taken by the member states of the United Nations, October 11 has been designated as the ‘’International Day of the Girl Child’’ since 2012.   With the decision taken with the suggestions of Turkey, Canada and Peru, it is aimed to prevent discrimination and violence against girls and to ensure that girls can fully and effectively benefit from human rights.   Some of the other developments in history today are as follows:   1872: Activist Emily Davison, who fought for women’s right to vote, was born today in London, the capital of England.   1928: Yıldız Kenter, who has been remembered with the roles she has taken in countless films and theater plays, was born today.   2016: Fare Network (justice network), which carries out anti-discrimination works in football, launched the ‘’Action Week Against Discrimination in Football’’ between 6-20 October to raise awareness against gender inequality in football. The campaign, which started concurrently all over the world, was led by the Association for Struggle Against Sexual Violence from Turkey and Sportive Lesbon.
