HDP: 'Let it be declared neighborhood where flood disaster occurred as disaster area' 2021-08-02 15:21:40   VAN - The HDP delegation demanded that the neighborhood be declared a ‘’disaster area’’ urgently, as a result of the investigations it carried out regarding the flood disasters in the Esenyamaç Neighborhood.   Peoples' Democratic Party Van Provincial Organization held a press conference in the provincial building of their parties regarding the flood disaster in the Esenyamaç (Xaşkan) Neighborhood of Başkale district. HDP Van MPs Muazzez Orhan, Sezai Temelli and HDP Van Provincial Co-chair Fikret Doğan participated in the statement.   Call to be declared a ‘disaster area’   Speaking in the statement, Muazzez Orhan said that the places where the flood disaster occurred should be declared as ‘disaster area’. Muazzez said: ‘’We are experiencing forest fires on the one hand, flood disasters and earthquake tremors on the other. The reason for all this is ecological destruction. We are all living together as a result of the rent wars of capitalism, the rent and anti-nature policies of the governments. In such situations, saying ‘get well soon’ does nothing. Natural disasters have a before and after. The reason for the damage is due to negligence. The areas where the flood disaster occurred should be declared as ‘disaster area’ immediately. By giving an IBAN number, the damages of a country’s natural disasters cannot be covered.’’   ‘A political disaster is added to natural disasters’   Sezai Temelli stated that the climate crisis was behind the disasters. Sezai stated that there are disasters all over the world, but they do not cause great damage anywhere like in Turkey. Sezai said: ‘’The global climate crisis is a disaster that capitalism has created in this period. When we look at the scale of Turkey, political disasters are added to these natural disasters.’’   ‘People’s wounds should be healed immediately’   Stating that many houses were destroyed in the flood disasters that occurred in the city and its districts, and 1,500 sheep died, Fikret Doğan said that as a result of the investigations they carried out in Esenyamaç, the flood occurred as a result of the overflow of water in a canal built three years ago. Fikret said: ‘’Flood disasters have been occurring in the city and its districts for 10 consecutive days. 13 neighborhoods were affected by the flood disaster in Başkale. In the investigations we made in these neighborhoods, there was great material damage. All the grass that the citizens used as winter sheep fodder was wasted. Cultivated and planted areas are damaged. Many people were affected by the flood disaster in Çaldıran, Özalp and Saray. The wounds of the people need to be healed immediately.’’
