Prisoners in Elazığ: Let press and rights organizations hear our voice 2021-07-08 16:35:05     ELAZIG - Kadir Kevser, who is imprisoned in Elazığ No. 2 High Security Closed Prison, explained the torture and pressure against them in a phone call with his family. Kadir called for the persecution to be heard by the press and human rights organizations.   The hunger strike that has been going on since November 27, 2020, against the isolation on Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan and the violations of rights in prisons in Turkey and the regional prisons is on its 224th day. Elazığ No. 2 High Security Closed Prison is one of the prisons where torture and oppression continue. Prisoner Kadir Kevser, who is in prison, stated that the prisoners were severely tortured and those who were subjected to torture were put in cells.   ‘Do not be late to give us a voice’   Prisoner Kadir Kevser, describing the pressures in the prison in a phone call with his family, noted that their situation was serious, and that a prisoner was exiled from Diyarbakır to Elazığ and that he was tortured. Kadir said: ‘’There was a lot of torture and attack on the incoming prisoner. He was then put in a solitary cell. No one can see, speak, or help him. We had a friend who was injured here before, and he was tortured too. We do not know how our friends are and how their health is. They are constantly attacking us. We want our voice to reach the press and human rights organizations. We have a lot of sick prisoners. Let our voices be heard and do not delay in giving us a voice.’’   ‘Let the demands of prisoners be accepted’   Kadir’s mother Ayhan Kevser, who reacted to the torture practices in prison, said: ‘’Torture and attacks are increasing day by day. I have submitted many petitions, but I have not received any response. Our children are not given a normal meal, nor they are given materials to clean. Our children are tortured in every way. These tortures and attacks are not the first. As we do not raise our voices, the tortures are increasing. Our children live there under torture. How long will this last? Let the demands of the prisoners be accepted, let the voices of our children be heard.”
