‘29 women killed in one month’ 2021-06-30 14:28:01     ANKARA - HDP Istanbul MP Oya Ersoy demanded the establishment of an Investigation Commission in the Parliament to investigate the increasing femicides after the unilateral withdrawal of the Istanbul Convention, to prevent violence against women and child abuse, and to take necessary measures.   Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Istanbul MP Oya Ersoy submitted a question for the establishment of an Investigation Commission in the parliament to investigate the increasing femicides after the Istanbul Convention, which was withdrawn by the Presidential decree, to prevent the increase in the cases of violence against women and sexual abuse of children, and to take the necessary measures.   ‘29 women killed’   In the question, it was stated that three months have passed since the decision to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention unilaterally and that 29 women were killed in Turkey between May 26 and June 25, which was only reported in the press. In the question, which included the information that only 83 women were killed by men since the day the decision to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention was taken unilaterally, it was stated that hundreds of women were subjected to violence and children were abused.   ‘LGBTI+ individuals are targeted’   In the question, ‘’Women are killed, LGBTI+ individuals are targeted and exposed to violence in our country today because protection measures are not implemented. The practice of impunity in femicides, reductions in sentences in favor of men lead to an increase in femicides every day.   ‘Child abuse is on the rise’   Pointing out that another problem experienced in the society after the decision to withdraw unilaterally from the Istanbul Convention is the increase in the cases of abuse against children, the question said: ‘’When children are abused both inside and outside the family, it paves the way for another abuse case after the abusers are not punished. The fact that no legal action is initiated against the abusers in cases of abuse, the courts' search for material evidence regarding the abuse case, and the without arrest trials cause the abuse of children to become more widespread.’’
