Up to 5 years prison request about Nurcan Kaya 2021-06-09 14:47:24   DİYARBAKIR - A prison sentence of up to five years was demanded for the social media posts about human rights defender and Artı Gerçek writer Nurcan Kaya.   The 3rd hearing of the trial, which continues with the allegation of "making propaganda for a terrorist organization in a chain" on the grounds of Twitter posts against human rights defender and Artı Gerçek writer Nurcan Kaya, was held at Diyarbakır 9th High Criminal Court. While Nurcan did not attend the hearing, her lawyers Erselan Aktan and Mehmet Emin Aktar were present.   Prosecutor requested sentence   In an opinion on the merits, it was reminded that Nurcan shared the following on her social media account: “Not only the Kurds, but all the peoples living there are resisting in Kobanê. Democratic Arabs are also resisting, they gave martyrs, unfortunately.” With this publicly shared post by Nurcan, it was claimed that the PKK, KCK, and YPG armed organization's methods containing force, violence, or threat were justified, praised, and encouraged to resort to these methods, and "chained propaganda of the terror organization" through the press and broadcast. Prosecutor demanded that she punished for up to five years.   The prosecutor also requested the implementation of the provisions regarding the restriction of Nurcan's right to elect, be elected, and custody.   Additional time requested   Nurcan's lawyers said that they did not accept the opinion prepared for the punishment of their clients. The lawyers requested time to be given for their defense on the merits against the opinion.   The court board postponed the next hearing to September 27, while giving time to Nurcan's lawyers to prepare their defense against the opinion on the merits.
