Application from Mor Çatı Women’s Shelter Foundation to Council of State 2021-05-21 12:37:03     ISTANBUL - Mor Çatı Women’s Shelter Foundation applied to the Council of State for the suspension of execution of the annulment decision of the Istanbul Convention.   Turkey decided to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention, of which it is the first signatory and party, with the Presidential Decree on March 20. Since the withdrawal date, many women’s organizations and individual lawyers have sued the Council of State for suspension of execution.   Mor Çatı has filed a lawsuit to the Council of State for the suspension of the threat to the abolition of the convention in Turkey on July 1.   ‘These are vital’   In the statement made by the Mor Çatı Women’s Shelter Foundation regarding the case, the following words were used: “As Mor Çatı, we are opening this case. In the light of the informations we have gained with the experiences of tens of thousands of women and their children for more than 30 years, we consider it is essential that the Istanbul Convention remains in force and unconditionally implemented in order to prevent the effects of violence and violence against women. For this reason, the annulment of Presidential Decree terminating the Istanbul Convention, to suspension of execution of the decision immediately to prevent the decision to withdraw from the convention to come into effect on July 1, women to survive, establish a life free from violence and to exercise their fundamental rights and freedoms as guaranteed by the constitution are vital.’’
